Turbomeca Arriel Ng Cycle Counter
for Eurocopter AS350 Series

AKV, Inc.
An independent design & manufacturing
group of Rotor Wing Systems

AKV, Inc. of Moorpark, California, are pleased to announce the introduction of an innovative and cost effective FAA approved Ng cycle counter and data logging system for retrofitting into all Eurocopter AS350B, BA, B1 and B2 Helicopter models.

The AKV, Inc. Ng cycle counter is designed to replace the present pilot ?lump sum method? of Ng cycle calculation, with an accurate computerized counter, based upon the Turbomeca ?recommended procedure.?

* Affordable Ng cycle counter designed to replace the
pilot ?lump sum method? with an accurate, computerized
counter based upon the Turbomeca ?recommended procedure.?
* STC number SR01452LA and PMA number PQ2418NM approvals
for the Eurocopter AS350 B, BA, B1,B2 Helicopters.
* The counter provides substantial savings due to increased
component replacement times.
* Reduced DOC?s from the lower Ng cycle counts.
* The unit displays:
- Current Ng flight cycle count value.
- Ng RPM value.
- Accumulated Ng value for maintenance
- Power turbine starts (Pt)
- Accumulated maintenance operating time
from the collective (Mt)
- Accumulated revenue operating time from
the engine start (Rt)
* Easy to read 4 line LCD display screen with reset button
* A must for tour operators or operations requiring
repetitive cycles.
* Less than 3-hours install time.
* Replaces the Hobbs meter and mounts in the same location
under the instrument panel.
* Compact unit with no weight penalties.

We are working on a version for the Allied Signal LTS101 powered Astar's during 2005

The AKV Ng Cycle Counter "Data Stream"
Data Acquisition System

Available in the last quarter of 2004 is the newly STC?d AKV, Inc. "Ng Data Stream" encoder, an AKV Ng cycle counter data acquisition system which allows the pilot to "swipe" a magnetic data card and transfer the Ng cycle counter data to the card. The data on the card is ?swiped? through a card reader into a desk top PC and automatically formatted to an AKV spread sheet for viewing, printing and file saving. All the necessary equipment and software is provided for the "Ng Data Stream" package as an optional addition to AKV the Ng cycle counter.

Existing AKV Ng cycle counters can be upgraded to incorporate the "Ng Data Stream" package.

The "Data Stream" information provided in a print out form is:

* Aircraft Registration Number
* A number generated by the Ng Cycle Counter for report tracking purposes.
* Flight accumulation values for:
- Ng cycles
- Engine starts
- Airframe hour accumulation times
- Revenue hour accumulation times
* Starting and ending accumulation values for:
- Ng cycles
- Engine starts
- Airframe hour accumulation times
- Revenue hour accumulation times

Turbomeca engine cycle counter
service letter 2283/04, dated February 18, 2004.

AKV, Inc. Response to the referenced Turbomeca service letter

The AKV Turbomeca Ng cycle counter, part number 350NGTEC to STC number SR01452LA and PMA number PQ2418NM for the Eurocopter AS350 B, BA, B1,B2 Helicopters fitted with the Arriel 1 engine, fully complies with all FAA requirements and accurately emulates the Turbomeca ?recommended procedure? via our proprietary software and display module.

The Turbomeca ?recommended procedure? is one of two manual Ng cycle counting methods approved by Turbomeca and is (in reality) difficult for pilots to use. The other (popular) Turbomeca procedure is the ?lump sum? method and is widely used by pilots due to its simplicity. AKV independent studies over a two year period have shown that errors in manual cycle counting are off by up to 60% and could potentially result in a non-contained disk burst as highlighted by Turbomeca in their service letter.

The AKV Ng cycle counter as described by the FAA-ACO is a non-critical device and by their definition complies with DO178B level D (4) quoted as follows:

?Level D (4): Software whose anomalous behavior, as shown by the system safety assessment process, would cause or contribute to a failure of system function resulting in a minor failure condition for the aircraft. For example software whose failure conditions would cause slight increase in crew workload, such as, routine flight plan changes, or some inconvenience to occupants?.

Note that in the level D explanation, the pilot?s workload would increase to the point where the pilot would be required to monitor the Ng counts manually for the remainder of the flight in question.

Turbine Engine
Compressor Chamber Washer

A compact and mobile jet engine compressor chamber washing and rinsing system. Constructed in stainless steel and designed to be recharged with air, water and cleaning fluid in the workshop, the unit is easily moved to the aircraft by tow hitch or hand tug. The integral air cylinder provides the pressure to propel the cleaner and rinse water when operating on aircraft outside the hangar
