Oxine, manufactured by Bio-Cide International, is a highly refined blend of oxychloro species containing purified sodium chlorite. When activated with a food grade acid, chlorine dioxide is produced and greatly enhances Oxine’s antimicrobial activity. With applications in the brewing, food processing and water treatment industries, Oxine displays broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity, proven effective against E. coli O157:H7, Salmonella, Aspergillus, Listeria, Staphylococcus and Pseudomonas, among others. Researchers also found that Oxine has a significantly effective biocide against fungal spores of Mucor sp. [2] and against pasteurization-resistant Alicyclobacillus acidoterrestris [3]. Even at its most concentrated form, Oxine is non-corrosive to human tissue and stainless steel equipment. This increases the lifespan of all of your processing equipment and makes for a safer working environment. Oxine, and other chlorine dioxide-based sanitizers, have been rigorously proven in a number of industries and are specifically approved under Title XXI of the Code of Federal Regulations [4] for use as a direct contact sanitizer by the FDA [5].
